miscellaneous geekery

Palm Zire 72 + internal Bluetooth + Motorola DC600 Bluetooth adapter + Motorola C343 cellphone + Verizon ExpressNetwork + Pocket Tunes Deluxe + BassDrive MP3 stream + headphones == Walkman for the 21st Century.

Finally got my Zire 72 to talk to the Bluetooth adapter attached to my cell phone. End result, I can get high-speed data access from my Palm without a PC or 802.11b access point... which lets me use Pocket Tunes Deluxe to stream internet radio sites to my pocket, completely wirelessly. It's simply awesome.

wow .. that is actually really really crazy.. do you have to pay a lot to use the data service? so, when you are using the Zire with the phone, do you require any external adaptors or cords or anything like that? or is it really totally wireless except for your headphones??

While the speed of the BlueTooth connection from the Palm to the cell dongle (Motorola DC600) at 115kbps, and the cell phone is attached to the internet at over 100kbps (via CDMA 1xRTT), the dongle can only currently talk to the phone over a 14.4kbps UART. Braindead. This throttles my connection to a trickle.

If I buy a universal BlueTooth to serial dongle (with a real UART) and a Motorola serial data cable, I can get higher speeds... just haven't had the need yet.
