autumnal musings...

Ah, November. New England's climatalogical equivalent of craps, played out over the fields, mountains, and lakes of the most northeastern states... confusing, intimidating, and, unpredictably terrifying.

Wednesday morning, upon leaving the apartment, stepping over the remains of shattered pumpkins and waiting for sedate, sugar-comatose children to board their infernally slow school bus, I pulled out of the parking lot and wished that I had worn shorts and sandals... and taken the day off.

It was in the high 60s, all day, with lots of sun. Unseasonably warm, very bright, and absolute squishy hell on my snow tires. Thursday brought rain... lots of rain... and the grand rollercoaster slide of the mercury to this morning, when it was 25 degrees outside at 7AM.

Don't get me wrong... I love cold weather. I wander around all winter in a short sleeved t-shirt, reassuring old women that no, I'm not cold, and no, I don't need a coat. Really.

But this up and down stuff wreaks havoc on my senses, not to mention the HVAC system at the office. Let's just get to winter already, so I can start wandering around in shorts with snow on the ground, using my old line about having just returned from a scientific expedition to Antarctica and how the New Hampshire winters "are so balmy."
